Weather Advisory

Check below for weekly travel advisories at Port Authority facilities. It is important to note that the content below does not list alerts for current travel conditions. It only lists foreseen conditions that will impact traffic, such as construction and roadwork. This information is updated Friday evenings. It may also be updated throughout the week if there are changes to scheduled construction and/or roadwork that significantly impacts traffic.

BOTH DIRECTIONS (SOUTHBOUND & NORTHBOUND)

NOTE: The Bayonne Bridge’s new elevated roadway will open to drivers on Monday, February 20, at 5 a.m. When the new roadway opens, all traffic crossing Route 440 between Bayonne, N.J. and Staten Island, N.Y. will be directed by signs to the bridge’s new approach roadways and over the elevated span.

The Richmond Terrace exit ramp in New York and the JFK entrance ramp in New Jersey will reopen, while the Avenue A entrance ramp to southbound 440 in New Jersey and the Morningstar Road exit ramp in New York will close until project completion.

Also at this time, cashless tolling operations will commence at the Bayonne Bridge. To learn more, visit www.panynj.gov/BayonneToll.

The Bayonne Bridge is closed. All traffic diverted to the Goethals Bridge.

ADVISORY 2

  • Tuesday, February 21, 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning
  • Wednesday, February 22, 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday morning
  • Thursday, February 23, 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. Friday morning

Closure(s):
The Bayonne Bridge is closed between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. All traffic diverted to the Goethals Bridge.

STREET CLOSURES

BAYONNE, NEW JERSEY

Date(s):

  • Friday, February 17, 7 p.m. around-the-clock until 5 a.m. Monday, February 20

Closure(s):
The Avenue A exit ramp, off of Route 440 heading into Staten Island, is closed.
Traffic is diverted to the 5th Street U-turn to access downtown streets.

STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK

Beginning on or about Wednesday, January 18, and continuing for approximately 4 weeks, there will be partial daytime closures of Innis Street between John Street and Eaton Place:

  • Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (when Port Richmond High School is in session)
  • Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (when Port Richmond High School is not in session)
  • Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Morningstar Road entrance ramp to southbound Route 440 is closed.

BAYONNE BRIDGE VEHICULAR RESTRICTIONS

  • Height Limit - 12 feet 6 inches
  • Width Limit - 8 feet

Over dimensional and overweight trucks are prohibited from crossing the Bayonne Bridge at all times, until further notice. This change is necessary to accommodate ongoing Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project work.

STATEN ISLAND RICHMOND TERRACE/TRANTOR PLACE RAMP CLOSURES

The next phase of the Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project requires the closure of the Richmond Terrace/Trantor Place ramps that connect the span to local Staten Island streets.

OFF-RAMP CLOSURE

If you normally exit Route 440 using Exit 13-Richmond Terrace/Trantor Place, you will now use Exit 12-Forest Ave and Willow Road east to Trantor Place. Travel north on Trantor Place to reach your final destination.

NOTE: The Richmond Terrace/Trantor Place exit ramp (Exit 13) will reopen at 5 a.m. on February 20, 2017.

ON-RAMP CLOSURE

If you normally use the Richmond Terrace/Trantor Place on-ramp to access the Bayonne Bridge, you will now take Port Richmond Avenue south to Trantor Place to access the Forest Avenue on-ramp, which leads to the bridge.

JFK BOULEVARD RAMP CLOSURES

The Bayonne Bridge Navigational Clearance Project requires the closure of the Staten Island-bound JFK Boulevard On-Ramp and New Jersey-bound JFK Boulevard Off-Ramp.
