New PATH Car

Young PATH riders get a tour of the Harrison Car Maintenance Facility during Take Your Child To Work Day

PATH is the only 24/7 mass transit rail system running between New York and New Jersey. For nearly half-a-century, the rail line that began operations in 1908 has been operated by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Serving roughly 250,000 passengers on a typical weekday, PATH is one of the region’s critical mass-transit links. Overall in 2008, PATH handled nearly 75 million riders, an increase of almost 4 percent over the prior year.

The Port Authority considers PATH a part of the communities it serves. PATH strives to be a good neighbor to our friends – PATH riders, local residents, and elected officials – in the Ironbound in Newark, along Jersey City’s waterfront, down Hoboken’s cobbled streets, and everywhere in between.
