TRAVEL ADVISORY - LAGUARDIA AIRPORT TO UNDERGO WEEKEND CONSTRUCTION WORK ON 94th STREET ROADWAY, BEGINNING FRIDAY NIGHT, OCTOBER 19

Date: Oct 19, 2018
Press Release Number: 159-2018

Construction scheduled to run until noon Sunday, and will continue for consecutive weekends through November 11

The Port Authority is set to begin construction this weekend on the 94th Street roadway at LaGuardia Airport, part of the agency’s ongoing redevelopment of the airport.

Due to the physical constraints limiting 94th Street north of the Grand Central Parkway (GCP), the construction must be done during overnight shifts and weekends.

The construction work will begin at 11:59p.m. on Friday nights and conclude by noon the following Sunday. The weekend work on this phase of the project will conclude at noon on Sunday, November 11.

During all four weekends, Central Terminal Drive heading west from Terminal B towards 94th Street will become one lane. To reduce vehicular volume, the taxi loading operation for Terminal B will be temporarily relocated to Lot 7. Passengers wishing to patronize taxi services will use a shuttle bus from the taxi loading zone at the west end of Terminal B to take them from the terminal to Lot 7.

The following conditions will be in place at LaGuardia over the next four weekends:

October 19-21:

  • Traffic on 94th Street northbound will not be allowed to turn left onto the service road towards the westbound GCP. All northbound 94th Street traffic will be forced to enter the airport via LaGuardia Road.
  • The westbound GCP access road approach to 94th Street will be closed. All west bound traffic from Exit 6/Terminals C & D must follow signs for airport entrance, or use the westbound GCP mainline.

October 26-28:

  • The westbound GCP access road approach to 94th Street will be closed. All west bound traffic from Exit 6/Terminals C & D must follow signs for airport entrance, or use the westbound GCP mainline.

November 2-4 and November 9-11:

  • Entry to the Terminal B garage will be from the westbound direction only; there will be no access from the eastbound Runway Drive. All access into the Terminal B Garage will be via Terminal B Arrivals.
  • The eastbound Runway Drive from the Loop Road to 94th Street will be a single lane.
